ABU extends academic calendar, resumes Oct. 24

Ahmadu Bello University, ABU, has extended its academic calendar, announcing October 24, as resumption date for academic activities. In a bulletin released after a Senate meeting, the University said, conferences for undergraduate students begin on January 3, 2023, nine weeks after the resumption date. According to the scheme, the school scheduled the first nine weeks after October 24 to complete student registration, consideration of outstanding results by the Standing Committee, postgraduate examination seminar and external examinations as well as the Christmas and New Year holidays. University of Ibadan resumes on Monday, Oct. 24

The Senate of the University of Ibadan, UI, has approved that academic activities would resume in the university with effect from Monday. This is contained in a release by Mrs Olubunmi Faluyi Registrar and Secretary to Council of the institution on Wednesday in Ibadan. Shocker: 150 schools shutdown in Jerusalem over debates on Israeli textbooks

More than 150 schools in East Jerusalem have protested over the introduction of Israeli textbooks, thus shutting down all the institutions. According to Agency reports, the strike in East Jerusalem, an area populated mostly by Palestinians is the latest flashpoint in a long-running Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which they urged children, who live in Jerusalem to learn about the conflict in their textbooks. UNICEF report places boys’ far-above girls in mathematics

By Steve Ndubueze, Correspondent Recent reports by the United Nations Transforming Education Summit, UNICEF, has revealed that girls globally are lagging behind boys in mathematics, attributing it to sexism and gender stereotypes among other causes. The new report shows, that helping girls and boys learn mathematics featured new data analyses, covering more than 100 countries and territories. The report noted that, boys have up to 1.3 times the odds of obtaining mathematics skills than girls. The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) said it has started mobilizing students across the country ahead of the planned nationwide protest by the Nigerian Labor Congress (NLC) over the prolonged strike by Nigerian university workers. NOUN: PH prison inmates’ graduate, receive certificates

Seven inmates of the Nigerian Open University of Nigeria have graduated from the institutions with two graduating with second-class upper, while the remaining five had second-class lower degrees. The inmates were part of those who graduated in the 2021/2022 academic session in March 2022, but could not join their colleagues for convocation due to incarceration.
